what is the best dosage on generic Zoloft (sertraline ) to take to make it work? I took 25mg.. now i am on 50,,, what is the dose that is the best to feel the great effects of it working... ( i have severe PMDD) so that is why i am on it now. Just curious.....

kristinmay replied: "That is between you and your doctor. The funny thing about it is that alot of the time you don't know it's helping until you go off of it and start to feel like $hit again. Then there's the tolerance factor. But that usually stems over years. I, myself, am on 150. But then again, I have been on it for 10 years. Yes, I have had increase my dosage, but I would not give it up for anything."

vaughn favrua replied: "i just stopped taking it. it helps a little bit. same as the real thing but no different"

What is normal dosage for Liquid Zoloft? (Sertraline)? Just curious what the normal dosage level is for zoloft in liquid form? Is it stronger than regular pill form? Can't seem to find the info anywhere...

tranquil replied: "Sertaline only comes in capsules, dosage from 25, 50 to 100 mg. Only way for sertaline to be in liquid form is when it is melted."

Frank007 replied: "Usual daily dose is 50-200mg for an adult. The liquid has a strenght of 20 mg/ml, so a normal dose would be 2.5-10ml. In some cases a higher dose can be applicable."

Sertraline (zoloft)? Ive been taking sertraline 50 mg for my clinical depression for 4 weeks now and haven't gotten any results or any improvement. Last weekend i felt great about 90% then i went back to being tired all the time again. what happened why did i feel so good for s short period of time? what should i do? increase dosage?

Stevie replied: "never up your own dosage, give it another week and call your doctor. theres a chance that this specific med just may not work for you, so you've got to talk to your doctor about it and figure out what the problem is. You say that you felt pretty good over the weekend... was there anything different going on during that time? Were you away from a certain person, or around someone that you usually arent? Did you go away for the weekend? The reason I ask is because even a small change in your day can have drastic results on your mood."

jo mason replied: "it could take up to 30 days to work so hang in there.feel better"

is there something stronger than sertraline? (zoloft)? I have been on Zoloft (sertraline) for 4 years now for anxiety disorder, and each year i have had to up my dosage because I get panic attacks and anxiety still. I now am taking 175mg a day, and would prefer to get on something stronger, instead of taking more than that. any ideas?

Idle Curiosity replied: "I am not an authority to make any recommendations here, but all I can say what worked for me, after many trial and error drugs and that was Lithium ( also available under several brand names). I suffer from clinical depression and Lithium has saved me. Lithium is normally used to treat bi-polar, but is great mood stabilizer and what the hell, it worked for me....."

how long until you saw the effects of sertraline (zoloft)? i've been taking it for about a month for my ocd and anxiety and i'm not sure if i've seen any major changes. i'm on the lowest dosage.

Marguerite replied: "By a month's time, positive effects should have taken place. Talk to your doctor. Since you are on a low dose, he/she may raise it to a higher dose. This is a common practice."

gizmo2008 replied: "Hi, I have been on Zoloft for 2 1/2 years. It takes 4 to 6 weeks to get the full effects of it working. The Dr will probably gradually up your dose.to 100mg and if that don't seem to work then 150mg and then the highest dosage of Zoloft is 200mg. I had the same problem, but as he ups the dose your soon feel so much better."

D Professor replied: "It really depends on you following the doctor's instructions and your metabolism. If you take it as prescribed, and don't miss days between, you should see results in 4-8 weeks. I have a friend that kept 'missing' a day or two for a long time and never saw changes. Once he started taking it as prescribed he was in the way to recovery within a month and a half. I can't take Zoloft due to adverse reactions I had after combat induced depression. If you are following your instructions properly, and have no changes, talk to your doctor. DO NOT EXPERIMENT WITH A LARGER DOSE UNLESS INSTRUCTED BY YOUR DOCTOR."

Godshot replied: "It looks like you have about a 4-week wait until the impact of the meds are in your system. You can help the process along, by using L-Theanine for muscle relaxation. Additionally, I would strongly recommend that you see a therapist as you're taking the Zoloft. The treatment of choice for OCD is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT. This approach is highly effective at helping with anxiety cure and the treatment of OCD. Medicine alone shows a potential 40% reduction in symptoms, while adding therapy increases rates of recovery up into the 90th percentile and relapse rates are much lower when you combine the two. What happens if you overdose on Sertraline (Zoloft)? I accidentally took a bottle of Sertraline (Trade name, Zoloft). I was joking around, and didn't mean to actually consume the damn thing. There were 30 tablets, at 50MG each. Making it 1,500MG, right? I took it about 5 hours ago. I feel lethargic and that's really it. I'm 5'8, and like 300lbs. I am 17. Please do not tell me to go to the hospital, ER, or call an Emergency Helpline. I should be alright if I'm not too bad by now, right? If it was a fatal dosage (Obviously not the wisest), then at my height, weight and age, when should I start feeling the fatality? Anything useful is appreciated.

WillR replied: "Zoloft can cause hallucinations and agitation, as well as sleep loss. A man in Australia was prescribed the 50mg tablets and took 5 of them on his first night of treatment. He killed his wife as a result of the hallucinations and agitation. My advice would be to IMMEDIATELY contact a hospital. Not only are you in severe danger of killing yourself, but you may even kill others. You will start to lose the capacity to conduct reasoned thought and you will experience hallucinations and severe agitation. Do not drive yourself to hospital, it's likely you won't be able to stay on the road as you will experience a toxic delirium - like being high. Whatever you do, do it quickly. You have taken an extreme overdose and you are in extreme danger. EDIT: I don't know how long it'll be before you start feeling the effects; I'm guessing it'll be a few hours, but to be honest, I've NEVER heard of a 1,500 mg dose of sertraline being taken all at once, so I don't actually know. Whatever you do, good luck... if you don't go to the hospital, you will NEED it. So will anyone else in your house."

Sertraline or dosage causing nausea? I was prescribed Zoloft 25 mg last year for mild depression. I took it for 3 months with no side effects (no bad effects). Then I stopped when I got pregnant. Now my baby is 5 months old, and I'm no longer breastfeeding, so I called my doctor to get back on Zoloft. This time the pre ion was for Sertraline 50mg. I've only taken it for 2 days and I have terrible nausea. I've taken it at night with food and still have nausea that lasts all day long. Do you think it's because of the increase in dosage from 25mg to 50mg? Or would the nausea be caused by the medication being a generic instead of the name brand zoloft? Thanks so much. mari

crabitchops replied: "im on sertraline and have been on and off for the last 5 years some have been branded others in hospital havent but i got really neauses on them too at first it did were off after a cuple of weeks 50mg is a low dose of sertraline its the first steep thats what they start everyone on try not too worrie hun it will wear off. i found takin rennie helped but you might want to check out with ur doc to make sure wont interfear with anything else your takin hope you feel better soon hun ;0"

zen replied: "Well, I've taken Prozac, Lexipro, and am on Paxil now. AND ALL of em made me feel severely puky for at least two weeks! Even riding in the car made me feel queezy. It's like we don't have our "sea legs" yet. After that, I only feel nauseas when I'm under alot of stress."

Weirdie replied: "I would honestly say it could be both the reasons you mentioned. I used to take Zoloft, and if I missed a dose or when I came off it, I felt sick too. Now I'm on Sertraline, and have had no problems at all. So both could be the cause, although the dosage probably wouldn't affect you yet as you started your second round, months apart, on the new doseage. Still though, if in doubt, call your doctor and see what he/she says."

Prozacnation replied: "Hi mate, I had nausea for first two weeks after starting on mine. I don't think that differing brands make a difference, its all exactly the same product anyhow. Although, I forgot to take mine thismorning and now I'm worried, cos by the time I get home from work it'll be too late to take it (I take mine in the morning) do you think I'll be OK? Will that affect me badly?"

I want to switch from Zoloft to Wellbutrin? I am currently taking 25 mg of Sertraline (Zoloft) and I find my sex drive is diminishing. I have heard that Wellbutrin is the alternative and I would like to know what dosage I should take.

star replied: "This is really a question that must be directed and discussed with your physician."

Short3Gears replied: "I tried both and did not like either... I am now on Lexapro and it is much better for me... the generic of lexapro citilapro (spelling is WAY off...) was not a true generic and was nothing like the true lexapro..."

Zoloft wearing off too soon should I take in the morning? Well, I'm on 15mg (pill and a half) of sertraline (zoloft) and I always take it at nite before bed. Then the next day when I wake up (6:00) and head to school, at around (9:00) it wears off. Should I up my dosage to 20 or 25mg? But I think before I talk to my doctor about upping it I'll take it in the morning instead. Will that help? Thanks everyone!

Diane replied: "I may be wrong, but isn't the lowest dose of Zoloft 25mg? Talk to your doctor you may need it increased, but don't do that without a doctors o.k."

basiorana replied: "I always had to take my Zoloft in the morning or it would wear off. Try that, if it still doesn't work, you are on a very low dose and could probably go up."

Im prescribed to take 125mg of sertraline (zoloft)? I usually take 1 100mg pill and 1 25mg pill. But I just found out I'm out of the 100mg pills, so do you think its okay if I take 6 of the 25mg ones until I can get my pre ion filled. I mean it adds up to the same dosage. I just want to make sure.

mykarma5@ymail.com replied: "Yes, it is perfectly fine to do that."

bonnie b replied: "ask your prescribing doctor"

Canan replied: "Normally it shouldn't be a problem, just make sure the medication is not 'extended release'. I don't think Zoloft is (Wellbutrin should be). Extended release meds are designed to dissolve certain layers of dosage after a certain amount of time, regulating the dosage you receive over the day. If you take 6 25 mg pills of such a designed medication, you may get too much at a certain time (when you first take it) and not have enough in your system later on. I don't think zoloft is extended release, but google, ask a pharmacist or call your health care provider to make sure!"

Stacey replied: "YES that is okay to do just inform your doctor of the current situation so that they may make adjustments to your next so you have enough of the 25mg pills and don't run out of them later."

RDude replied: "Yes but its 5 not 6 to add up to 125mg"
